Learning to drive in Adelanto: US 395, SR 18 and new street projects

Two state highways border Adelanto: US 395 and State Route 18. The city's street division page (opens in a new tab) says it works with Caltrans to keep them and their signals in good repair. South of town, the state funded a US 395 widening in May 2025 (Caltrans (opens in a new tab)). That project runs through Hesperia and Victorville, from just north of I-15 to SR 18. It widens the highway to four lanes, with a 14-foot paved median and 8-foot shoulders. Here, watch for work zones and big trucks, and pass only on a long, clear, legal stretch.

Adelanto is also fixing its own streets. In 2026, the city sought bids to rehabilitate Seneca Road and Air Expressway (bid list (opens in a new tab)). It also sought bids for a roundabout at Bellflower Street and Mojave Drive. Residents were asked to fill out a Safe Routes to School survey (opens in a new tab) to help win grants for safer streets. At a roundabout, slow down and give way to traffic already circling. Near schools, look out for kids walking or riding bikes.
