DMV-approved, and how to check it yourself.
What DMV approval means for your permit, the two license numbers behind this course, and the DMV page where you can look them up in a minute.
What "DMV-approved" means for your permit
The California DMV accepts driver education from a DMV-licensed school, in a classroom or through "a home study or internet training program" that meets the same requirements. A licensed school is the only kind that can order the DL 400C, the DMV's own certificate form. So a DMV-approved online course means two things you can check: the course runs under a DMV license, and it ends with the official DL 400C that the DMV asks for at the learner's permit visit. This course does both.
The two license numbers behind this course
Course license E0159The DMV's license designation for a driver education course taught online rather than in a classroom. is the California Internet Instruction license the 30-hour course is taught under. School license E0271 is Stallion School of Driving, the DMV-licensed driving school in Chico, California that sells the course and whose instructors review every guide on this site. The DMV's rules ask a licensed school to show its name and license number with every price, which is why you see both numbers next to every Enroll button here.
Check them yourself in a minute
Open the DMV's Occupational License Lookup (opens in a new tab), choose the Business Category "Driving School", type a license number and search. The record shows the licensed name, city and a License Status, which should read Active. Search by number, not by brand name: a DMV record can use a legal name that differs from the name on a website. Our guide walks through each step of the lookup and lists the red flags to watch for with any online course.
Stallion School of Driving
Stallion is a California driving school, not a course website. Our DMV-licensed instructors teach the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training that follows driver education, in dual-brake cars, and they review the guides on this site. Families rate the school 4.9 on Google across 170 reviews, and BusinessRate named it Best Driving School in Chico 2026, based on Google reviews. The online course is the classroom step of the same path, sold by the school and backed by the same people.
When you enroll, you pay once on our secure enrollment page, which carries Stallion's name and address. The course is DMV-approved under course license E0159, and your contact for anything about it is Stallion.
