Learning to drive in Cypress: fall street resurfacing and e-bike rules

Cypress is resurfacing residential streets across the city under project CIP 416 (resurfacing project (opens in a new tab)). The work began in mid-July 2026 and continues through October 2026. It includes grinding and overlay, crack sealing, slurry seal and full-depth reclamation on some streets. Crews then replace striping, pavement markers and curb paint. On a street with no fresh lines yet, slow down, keep well to the right and follow any flagger or cone.

Cypress police remind riders that bikes and e-bikes must obey the same signals and signs as cars (bicycle and e-bike page (opens in a new tab)). Riders must go with traffic, keep near the right edge and use a bike lane when one exists. A Class 3 e-bike can reach 28 mph with motor help, and its rider must be at least 16. Helmets are required for all riders under 18. Judge an e-bike's speed carefully before you turn left in front of one.
