Learning to drive in Rosemead: a state highway called Rosemead Boulevard

Rosemead Boulevard is a state highway, State Route 164, so Caltrans runs it. The city's engineering page (opens in a new tab) notes that even its streetlights are Caltrans' job, and broken ones go to Caltrans maintenance. In June 2026, Caltrans closed lanes and ramps (opens in a new tab) on Rosemead Boulevard at SR-60, next to Whittier Narrows. Crews sealed cracks and did other upkeep. On one day, both directions shared the southbound lanes. Expect lane shifts like that, and trust the cones over the faded striping.

Rosemead also runs Rosemead GO (opens in a new tab), an on-demand ride service booked by app or phone. Riders meet a branded Rosemead GO vehicle at a set pickup point. People without a smartphone can book by phone instead. These vans stop where riders wait, not only at bus stops. When a van ahead slows near the curb, give it room. Check your mirror before you change lanes to pass.
