Learning to drive in Woodland: missing freeway connectors and Sacramento River bridge work

Woodland sits where Interstate 5 meets State Route 113, but two freeway links are missing. To go from northbound I-5 to southbound SR 113, drivers must exit and use city streets (opens in a new tab). The same is true from northbound SR 113 to southbound I-5. The pair also forms the region's only east-west route for overweight trucks. The city is planning connectors to close the gap. Near the interchange, expect big trucks turning on local streets, and give them room to swing wide.

Other projects are reshaping nearby roads. At SR 113 and Gibson Road, the city removed a free right turn (opens in a new tab). Drivers now turn at a signal, and walkers get a controlled crosswalk. South of town, I-5 crosses the Sacramento River on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge. In September 2026, Caltrans cut that bridge to one lane (opens in a new tab) at night to replace pavement, with a 55 mph work-zone limit. Allow extra time for late trips toward the airport, and obey the lower limit.
