Learning to drive in Camarillo: rock trucks on Highway 34 and safer local roads

Through December 15, 2026, Camarillo drivers share several roads with extra heavy trucks. A nearby rock mine lengthened its hours to supply emergency repair work in Malibu, the city reports (opens in a new tab). Trucks run from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Their route uses Pleasant Valley Road, Highway 34 and Las Posas Road on the way to Highway 1. Trucks need more room to stop and turn. Avoid their blind spots, and never pull in close ahead of one.

Camarillo looks after about 300 miles of streets, not counting freeways and state highways, says its Traffic division page (opens in a new tab). The city also has a Local Road Safety Plan that uses crash data to find and fix problem spots. The page cites federal figures showing at least 40 percent of U.S. traffic deaths occur on local roads. Local streets are where new drivers spend most of their time. Stop fully at stop signs, watch for bikes, and keep your speed down near homes and schools.
