Learning to drive in Oxnard: Vineyard Avenue work and dense fog
Vineyard Avenue, State Route 232, is getting new pavement from US 101 to State Route 118. The Caltrans project (opens in a new tab) replaces more than 10 miles of pavement in Oxnard and El Rio and adds bike lanes. Its schedule runs from summer 2025 to winter 2026/2027. In one work zone, two lanes stay open each way, but drivers turning left must do it from the left lane. Paving happens on weekday nights. In a shifted work zone, choose your turn lane early and follow the cones, not the old lines.
Caltrans is also preparing a safety and climate plan for State Route 1 (opens in a new tab). It runs from Santa Monica up to Pleasant Valley Road in Oxnard. Weather is the other local test. Under a federal Dense Fog Advisory (opens in a new tab), you may see only one-quarter of a mile ahead, or less. In heavy fog, keep headlights on low, cut your speed, and leave a longer gap behind the car ahead.
