Learning to drive in Jurupa Valley: SR 60 ramp meters, truck routes and school streets

State Route 60 crosses Jurupa Valley on its way to Riverside. In 2021, the state funded ramp meters and HOV bypass lanes (opens in a new tab) for SR 60 ramps in both cities. The city is also updating its truck routes (opens in a new tab) under two new state laws, AB 98 and SB 415. The goal is to balance freight with quieter, cleaner neighborhoods. At a ramp meter, stop at the line and go on green. Only carpools may use the bypass lane.

Pacific Avenue shows how the city wants to make school streets safer. It serves four schools, including Rubidoux High School (opens in a new tab), and students now walk along the edge where sidewalks are missing. The city plans one lane each way, a center turn lane, buffered bike lanes and full sidewalks. Flashing beacons will mark key crossings. When the beacons flash, stop for the person crossing. Use the center lane only to wait for a left turn, never to pass.
