Learning to drive in Moorpark: repaving State Route 118 on Los Angeles Avenue

In Moorpark, Los Angeles Avenue is State Route 118 (Caltrans project page (opens in a new tab)). It is a busy highway that also works as a main city street. Caltrans is repaving 2.8 miles of it between Spring Road and Montair Drive. The project adds new signal poles at six intersections and 46 accessible pedestrian signals. The work runs from summer 2025 to fall 2027, and paving was due to finish in late April 2026. Where signal or curb work narrows a lane, slow down and follow the signs and cones.

Moorpark's own 2026 paving project started on June 1, 2026, on streets scattered across the city (2026 Pavement Project (opens in a new tab)). A truck with lasers scored every city street, and the citywide average before the work was 68, rated good. Most of the job was slurry seal, with final striping expected in mid-August. Crews post signs and door hangers 3 to 5 days before grinding, paving or slurry work. Follow posted detours, and never drive around a barricade onto a freshly sealed street.
