Learning to drive in Morgan Hill: the Hale Avenue extension and 20-minute green curbs

Hale Avenue now reaches farther across Morgan Hill than it once did. The Hale Avenue Extension (opens in a new tab) was built in two phases, starting in spring 2021. Crews waited for Valley Water's Llagas Creek flood work to go in underground first. Phase II opened with a ribbon cutting on August 24, 2024, just south of Main Avenue. The project page even links to tips on driving a roundabout. On a road this new, trust the signs and lane arrows, since your map app may lag behind.

Downtown parking rules are changing this fall. Under the city's downtown parking plan (opens in a new tab), 18 side-street spaces near Monterey Road become 20-minute spots with green curbs. New signs and curb paint are due in late October. Officers will hand out warnings in November and December, and citations begin in early 2027. Parking stays free, including in the downtown garage. A green curb means a short time limit, so read the posted sign before you walk away from the car.
