Driving in Yuba County: Marysville's Route 70 and new truck traffic
State Route 70 runs right through Marysville, past two high schools and under two railroad underpasses. Caltrans plans to widen this stretch (opens in a new tab) to five lanes with center turn lanes, 8-foot shoulders and new sidewalks. It will also replace both underpasses and lower the road to give tall trucks more room. Construction is scheduled from spring 2027 to spring 2029. Near schools, slow down and expect students crossing before and after class. As you near each underpass, read the signs and stay in your lane.
In Yuba County, State Route 20 now has a new traffic signal at Kibbe Road (opens in a new tab), turned on in March 2026. It gives trucks from a gravel plant direct access to the highway. On State Route 65 near Olivehurst, Caltrans schedules repaving with new acceleration and deceleration lanes (opens in a new tab) from December 2027 to December 2028. Behind loaded trucks, leave at least four seconds of space. At any new signal, watch for drivers who still expect the old traffic pattern.
