Learning to drive in Chino Hills: Peyton Drive repaving and easier-to-see signals

Peyton Drive is a main route through Chino Hills. A repaving project (opens in a new tab) was set to start on Peyton on September 8. It covers the stretch between State Route 71 and Grand Avenue, with completion expected in early December. Lanes close on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but Peyton stays open to through traffic. When a lane closes, slow down and merge as soon as the signs tell you to. Never speed up to beat other cars into the open lane.

Chino Hills has been fitting traffic signals with retroreflective backplates (opens in a new tab) across the city. The bordered panels make signal heads easier to spot by day and at night. They also help in a power outage, when an unlit signal could be missed. Work was planned from March 2026 to the end of July 2026. If you ever reach a signal that is dark, treat it as an all-way stop. Stop fully, then take turns with the other drivers.
