Learning to drive in Dublin: I-580/I-680 connector closures and Tassajara Road work

Dublin sits where Interstates 580 and 680 cross, and their connector ramps have needed repeated repairs. Caltrans closed the southbound I-680 to eastbound I-580 connector (opens in a new tab) overnight on May 10, 2026, for joint repairs. It did so again on June 7, with a detour through Stoneridge Drive (opens in a new tab). Drivers exited at Stoneridge, turned east, and returned on northbound I-680 to reach the connector. Freeway detours can feel confusing at night. Follow the signs one turn at a time, and slow down before each one.

Inside the city, Tassajara Road is being widened in phases. Dublin said Phase 1 began on August 3, 2026 (opens in a new tab) and should run through the end of November. Crews first repave the northbound side between Rutherford Drive and North Dublin Ranch Drive. Then they rebuild it with curbs, sidewalks and more width. Drivers and bicyclists should expect lane shifts, lower speed limits and delays. In a work zone, obey the reduced limit, follow the shifted lines, and leave room for workers.
