Driving in Napa County: roundabouts and valley work zones

Napa County's newest driving test is a roundabout junction at the south end of the valley. At Soscol Junction (opens in a new tab), three roads converge: SR 29, SR 221 and Soscol Ferry Road. Caltrans built a flyover with two roundabouts beneath it, open to traffic in fall 2024. The valley draws nearly five million visitors a year, and many workers commute in from Solano County. Try it first at a quiet hour. Slow down on the approach, yield to cars already circling, and choose your lane before you enter.

Beyond that junction, several valley highways have work zones. Caltrans's summer 2026 Napa County newsletter (opens in a new tab) describes resurfacing on SR 128 between St. Helena and Napa. Crews are also doing erosion control on SR 121 at Monticello Road. Near Airport Boulevard, the SR 12/SR 29 interchange jams at rush hour. Caltrans projects construction there for 2030, pending funding. Follow the flagger's sign, keep a full gap behind the car ahead, and never pass inside the cones.
