Learning to drive in Napa: red-light cameras and SR 29 ramp work
In the city of Napa, intersections are where most crashes happen. The city's red light camera page (opens in a new tab) says 90% of 1,207 collisions from 2016 to 2020 occurred at intersections. Cameras now watch Soscol Avenue at Lincoln Avenue and Redwood Road at Solano Avenue. Two more sites, SR 29 at Trower Avenue and Soscol Avenue at Imola Avenue, were listed for June 2026. On red, stop fully before the limit line, and make a complete stop before any right turn on red.
State Route 29 also runs through Napa as a freeway. In November 2025, Caltrans repaved shoulders and ramps (opens in a new tab) at night between Trancas Street and First Street. In spring 2026, it closed the Lincoln Avenue ramps (opens in a new tab) on weekdays from April 27 to May 1. Caltrans posts live road work on its QuickMap website. During a ramp closure, follow the posted detour, and allow a few extra minutes for the trip.
