Learning to drive in Poway: SR 67 culvert work and how stop signs get approved
State Route 67 is under repair from Lakeside up to Ellie Lane in Poway. The SR 67 culvert project (opens in a new tab) began in February 2026 and should take about 550 working days. Crews are fixing drains, repaving, and adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips. Work moves in roughly one-mile pieces, with day and night shifts and flaggers. If a flagger holds up a stop paddle, stop at the line and wait for the slow sign. Then follow the car ahead through.
In Poway, stop signs are not added just to slow traffic. The city's Traffic Engineering page (opens in a new tab) says stop signs must meet state rules and are not a tool for calming speed. Residents can request a permanent speed feedback sign instead. The Sheriff also moves a portable one around town. A feedback sign flashes your speed as you approach. If it shows you over the limit, slow down right away.
