Driving in Sutter County: Yuba City intersections and rural curves
Two Sutter County spots on State Routes 20 and 99 have crash rates high enough to need safety projects. At State Route 20 and Stafford Way (opens in a new tab) in Yuba City, 33 crashes injured 28 people in three years. Caltrans schedules a new traffic signal there, with construction from November 3, 2026, to October 2027. Near Live Oak, the Lomo Crossing project (opens in a new tab) on State Route 99 will end cross traffic at Encinal Road. It also adds acceleration lanes near a railroad crossing. In an acceleration lane, build up speed, find your gap early and merge without stopping.
Rural curves are another risk. On State Route 113 just north of the Yolo County line, one curve saw 14 crashes in five years. In one of them, a car left the road, entered a mobile home park and killed three people. Caltrans plans to flatten that curve (opens in a new tab) and close three gravel driveways, with work scheduled from October 2026 to July 2027. Slow down before curves, not in them. On rural highways, watch for cars pulling out of driveways.
