Learning to drive in Lake Elsinore: metered I-15 ramps and the Central Avenue interchange
On Interstate 15, the Main Street interchange project (opens in a new tab) widened Main Street through the interchange. It added traffic signals at the ramps and at Camino Del Norte. It also widened the ramps and put meters on the on-ramps. Work was set to begin in March 2022 and take about 18 months. A metered ramp lets one car go per green light. Wait your turn at the line, then build speed and merge into a gap.
At Central Avenue, Interstate 15 meets State Route 74. The city and Caltrans propose a $39 million interchange upgrade (opens in a new tab) to add ramp storage and better links between the two routes. The final environmental documents are now posted. Busy interchanges like this have short merge areas and lots of turning traffic. Choose your lane early from the overhead signs. Do not cut across lanes at the last second.
