Learning to drive in Murrieta: I-215 work and a planned roundabout interchange

Interstate 215 runs through Murrieta toward Menifee, and Caltrans has a pavement project (opens in a new tab) there. It covers new pavement, replacement shoulder rumble strips, and upgraded culverts and guardrails. Lanes and shoulders close in turns while crews work. Rumble strips buzz when your tires drift onto the shoulder. If you feel them, steer gently back into your lane without jerking the wheel. In the work zone, follow the reduced speed signs.

Murrieta plans a new I-215 interchange at Keller Road (opens in a new tab), which now passes under the freeway as a two-lane road. Today, drivers must use the Scott Road or Clinton Keith Road interchanges instead. The city's preferred design uses two roundabouts in place of signals, a first for the region. The city lists construction to start in 2027. Until then, practice on other roundabouts. Slow down, yield to traffic inside, and keep moving once you are in the circle.
