Learning to drive in Rocklin: the I-80 and SR 65 connector ramps

Rocklin drivers reach the freeway network through the I-80 and State Route 65 interchange next door in Roseville. In 2021, Caltrans repaved the connector ramps (opens in a new tab) between the two routes with rubberized asphalt designed to cut traffic noise. Alternating connectors closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on several nights. Some detours used the Rocklin Road ramps to turn drivers around. Freeway-to-freeway ramps curve sharply, so slow to the posted ramp speed and stay in your lane.

Later that summer, Caltrans closed the southbound SR 65 connector (opens in a new tab) to eastbound I-80 at night for guardrail work. Drivers took westbound I-80 to the Eureka Road and Taylor Road exit, then got back on heading east. Caltrans estimated the whole job would be done by early September. On a curving ramp, brake before the bend, look through the turn, and hold your lane.
